In the film 'Raja Shivaji,' Bhagyashree plays Riteish Deshmukh's mother, Rajmata Jijabai. However, the age difference between the two actors is only 10 years, which has sparked a lot of discussion on social media about the casting. Now, Bhagyashree has reacted to this.
In an interview with Zoom, Bhagyashree explained that saying yes to the role was not difficult for her at all. She said, "When you get the opportunity to play a character whose stories you grew up listening to, there's no question of refusing it." And Jijabai was a young mother anyway.
Bhagyashree further shared that the film's cinematographer, Santosh Sivan, gave her a special compliment. She said, "Santosh Sivan sir called me and said, 'Sorry, we had to make you look a little older on camera, because you still look very young.' That's a huge compliment for me. He's a great cinematographer, after all."
The actress clearly stated that playing this role was like paying tribute to a historical and legendary figure. Instead of focusing on the age difference, she wanted to portray Rajmata Jijabai with complete honesty.
"Raja Shivaji," released on May 1, boasts a stellar star cast. Riteish Deshmukh plays Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, while Sanjay Dutt plays Afzal Khan.
Abhishek Bachchan plays Sambhaji Shahaji Bhosale in the film, and Vidya Balan plays Khadija Sultana. Genelia D'Souza plays Saibai, Bhagyashree plays Jijabai, and Fardeen Khan plays Shah Jahan.
The film also stars Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Amol Gupte, and Boman Irani in pivotal roles. Notably, Salman Khan will also make a special appearance.
