However, the altercation that Shah Rukh Khan had with the players on the same ground back in 2012 remains one of the memorable events in the history of the Indian Premier League. It seems that after many years, Iqbal Shaikh, who was an ex-ACP, has explained the situation in detail, claiming that things escalated due to misunderstandings. Find out what he had to say.
Iqbal Shaikh, who was the ACP of the area at the time, recently appeared in a podcast on Shubhojit Ghosh's YouTube channel. He explained, "It was mostly a misunderstanding that led to the situation between Shah Rukh Khan and Mumbai Cricket Association officials." I was the ACP of that area, so I was present there. When I reached the main gate, an MCA official told me, 'Shahrukh Khan created a ruckus.' By then, the match was over, most people had left, and some of the floodlights had been turned off.
Iqbal Shaikh said, "Shahrukh Khan was playing with children. A security guard objected and whistled, which angered him. An argument ensued, and an MCA official intervened. The situation was escalating, so I intervened and controlled the situation... I immediately asked Shahrukh to leave the stadium to prevent further escalation. I told him, 'Sir, please leave.' Otherwise, things could have escalated."
Following this incident, in May 2012, Shah Rukh Khan was banned from entering the Wankhede Stadium during the IPL. However, this ban was lifted three years later. The altercation occurred when his team, the Kolkata Knight Riders, defeated the Mumbai Indians.
After the match, a heated argument broke out between Shah Rukh Khan and the MCA security staff. The MCA alleged that Shah Rukh Khan was trying to force his way onto the field and misbehaved with the guards. However, Shah Rukh Khan denied these allegations at the time. According to reports, he said he reacted when the children were mistreated.
Later, on the TV show "Aap Ki Adalat," Shah Rukh Khan spoke about the incident, saying, "I was very angry and upset... I said these are our children and we are taking them away. A man there said something that I found offensive. It was a bit religious and offensive. After that, I lost my temper and went to hit him."
Shahrukh Khan will be seen in the upcoming film "King." Besides Shah Rukh Khan, the film "King" will also feature prominent actors like Deepika Padukone, Suhana Khan, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, and Anil Kapoor. The film is directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures. The movie will be released in theaters on December 24.
