Radhika Madan has acted in films such as "Pataakha" and "Angrezi Medium," yet she says one worry has stayed with her: the fear of being an outsider in Bollywood. Asked what is most challenging for actors today, she said acting itself is not the hard part for her, provided she is offered the right kind of scripts.
"There's Always a Fear That I'm Messing Up"
According to Radhika, the real problem is the outsider's position, which she says is something many people in her situation face. She said there is always a fear in her mind that she might be messing up her work, because she may not get another chance.
She explained that she feels she has to deliver an impactful performance every time, using a cricketing phrase to describe it: she has to hit fours and sixes. With no one in the industry to take care of her, she said, a couple of mediocre performances would not be met with understanding or a promise of another opportunity. In her words, the fear is not going away.
Fear as Fuel
Radhika also said the anxiety has a positive side. It pushes her to perform better and work harder. Still, she admitted that she does not currently know how to overcome it.
From Television to Cinema
Radhika Madan worked extensively in television before moving to films. In 2014, she starred in Ekta Kapoor's serial "Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi," playing the lead role of Ishani Vaghela, which made her a household name. In 2018, she made her film debut with "Pataakha." Her film work since includes "Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota," "Angrezi Medium," "Shiddat" and "Sarfira."
Why Her Words Resonate
The outsider-versus-insider debate has been part of Bollywood conversations for years, but it is usually framed around getting a first break. Radhika's comments point to a less discussed side: the pressure that continues after a debut, when each project can feel like it decides the next opportunity. Her candour, from an actor with a television-to-film journey and acclaimed performances, is likely to resonate with many newcomers who feel the same.
