Udhayanidhi Stalin, an opposition politician from Chennai, was arrested on Tuesday for making inappropriate remarks on actress Trisha Krishnan. Stalin had reportedly made inappropriate comments regarding Trisha at one of his public rallies; thus, a case has been lodged against him by his party TVK, headed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay. Supporting Trisha Krishnan and Vijay in this matter, he posted a story on his official Instagram account, writing, "Publicly using abusive language, double-meaning words, and cracking vulgar jokes is unacceptable in any civilized society. Mr. Stalin was jailed for this crime. He may have been released on bail by now, but this is a good example."

DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was detained by police at his Chennai home. Speaking to reporters from inside a police van, Udhayanidhi said he found the whole thing a comedy. Stalin also clarified that he did not name anyone in his statement or say anything inappropriate. He stated that he was fully prepared to face the consequences because he was not afraid of arrest.

For those unaware, Udhayanidhi raised the issue of the Cauvery water dispute, saying in Tamil, "Our CM isn't saying anything about the Cauvery water issue. He's more concerned about filing false cases against the DMK." When someone in the audience mentioned Trisha, he smiled and said something about the actress, along with Cauvery, which caused a commotion around him.

Regarding this entire matter, Justice GK Ilanthirayan of the Madras High Court ordered the police to release Udhayanidhi Stalin today after completing their interrogation. Tamil Nadu Advocate General Vijay Narayan assured the court that there was no intention to detain Stalin, but that the government only wanted to protect the interests of women.
