CHENNAI, Sept 17: Ayngaran International on Thursday released the trailer for "Anbil Avan," a Tamil romantic action film starring Ashok Selvan and Preity Mukhundhan, ahead of its worldwide theatrical release on September 25, according to the production house's social media announcement and news agency IANS.

The film, directed by R. Kaarthikeyan with music by Govind Vasantha, tracks a couple whose life is upended after marriage, moving from a working-class hotel job to a hill-station home where a violent incident triggers a chain of threats, an investigation and a legal and emotional fallout. Actor Ashok Selvan also announced the release date on his own social media page, calling the project "very special," entertainment outlet DT Next reported.

What the trailer shows

The two-and-a-half-minute trailer opens with Selvan's character introducing his wife, Iyal, played by Mukhundhan, describing how she left a wealthy household to build a life with him. It then shows the couple working at a hotel under what the trailer frames as constant scrutiny, followed by their marriage and relocation to a hill station.

A subsequent, undisclosed incident involving Iyal alone at home sets off the film's central conflict. Several characters, including one presented as a local politician, make statements referencing the episode, while a police officer investigating the case is shown making a pointed remark about Selvan's character. The back half of the trailer features action sequences and signals strain within the couple's relationship, without resolving the plot.

Backing and crew

"Anbil Avan" is backed by SonyLIV, according to DT Next and The Hollywood Reporter India, both of which independently confirmed the September 25 release window reported by IANS. The film is produced by K. Karunamoorthy, Ashok Selvan and Abinaya Selvam.

Its technical team includes cinematographer Gowtham Rajendran, editor Selva RK, action choreographer Peter Hein and art director Manikandan Srinivasan. The story is credited to Vignesh Raja, with the screenplay jointly written by Raja, Kaarthikeyan and Selvan. The Hollywood Reporter India noted the title is drawn from a well-known song in the 2010 film "Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa."

Cast context

At the film's title-teaser event last month, Mukhundhan said the production team functioned "more than a team," and credited Selvan for giving her creative space in the role, according to IANS. Selvan was last seen in a supporting role in "Thug Life" (2025); Mukhundhan has appeared in two 2026 releases, "Idhayam Murali" and "Blast," per The Hollywood Reporter India.

Neither the makers nor SonyLIV had disclosed the film's runtime or certification status as of publication. The film's theatrical release remains scheduled for September 25 across India and international markets.
