According to Diljit, he was raised in very poor conditions. There were instances when the family did not have the money to go to the hospital whenever someone was ill. Getting sick was a luxury for Diljit since the family had no resources to go to the doctor. In a recent interview, Diljit explained that these childhood hardships inspired him to move forward in life and work hard.
He said that when his first album was released in 2002, he realized that live performances could become his biggest source of income. Initially, he wasn't very enthusiastic about singing at birthday parties and weddings, but due to his contract, he had to accept these offers.
Gradually, he realized that earning money solely from albums wasn't easy, and the money he earned from these live shows offered him a path forward. Diljit explained, "I never refused anyone. Whether they offered 5,000, 10,000, or 15,000 rupees, I said yes to every offer. I would go out to perform everywhere, day and night."
He said there was only one reason behind this: to escape the poverty of his childhood. For him, becoming rich and successful wasn't just a dream, but a necessity.
Diljit also revealed that he later stopped performing at weddings. He said that some senior artists in the Punjabi music industry considered these shows to be small and limited him to that. Consequently, he decided to focus on his own larger concerts.
Recalling his childhood, Diljit said, "I come from a very poor family. If we got sick, we didn't have the money to go to the doctor.
On the work front, Diljit was recently seen in Imtiaz Ali's film "Main Wapas Aaunga," which also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari. The film was released in theaters on June 12.
