Director Dheeran Arunkumar's thriller Black Gold, starring Vetri, will release worldwide on November 13. The makers announced the date with a new poster on social media and confirmed that the film has been cleared by the Censor Board.
"#BlackGold – Censor U/A Certified. November 13th — Worldwide Release in Cinemas! The wait is almost over! Get ready for the world of #BlackGold," the makers said.
Shooting for the film was completed in February this year.
What Is Black Gold About?
According to sources close to the unit, the film revolves around a youngster and his stand-off with the shady mafias of a business underworld. Without revealing details, they said it will show how something people see and pass by every day, without paying any attention, is turned into a world-class business.
"This is an issue which hasn't been showcased in any film before," a source told IANS earlier.
Why It Matters: A Mystery in the Title
The makers have kept the film's central subject under wraps, and the title is the biggest clue. "Black gold" is a phrase often used for valuable commodities with a darker side, and the film's promise of exposing a hidden trade makes the subject itself its main hook. If the film delivers on its claim of tackling an untold issue, curiosity around the theme could work in its favour.
For lead actor Vetri, best known for his acclaimed performance in 8 Thottakal (Eight Bullets), Black Gold is another chance to lead a content-driven thriller. Director Dheeran Arunkumar is known for his earlier Tamil film Theerpugal Virkapadum.
The Cast
Vetri plays the lead alongside Priyalaya. Producer M Murthy also plays a key role. The cast includes Livingston, Thulasi, Bigg Boss fame Abhirami, A Venkatesh, Arul, D Sankar, Ramar, Jeeva Ravi, Ajith Vignesh, Karate Venkatesh and Japan Kumar.

The Bottom Line
With its censor certificate in hand and a date locked, Black Gold is set to reveal the mystery at its core on November 13. Whether its untold subject lives up to the hype will decide how far this Chennai-made thriller travels.
