Sharing pictures on Instagram, Sonakshi wrote, "The last time i wore a saree was when i got married… felt nice wearing one after so long."
A Gift From Huma
What made the moment more personal was where the saree came from. Sonakshi revealed it was a gift from her close friend and Double XL co-star Huma Qureshi.
In the pictures, Sonakshi strikes different poses on her balcony in the red saree, paired with matching bangles and earrings. She wore her hair in a bun adorned with gajra, and completed the traditional look with a mangalsutra and sindoor. Her makeup was kept soft, with nude lipstick.
Three Sarees, Three Stories
Sonakshi has often shown her love for the saree, and each of her most memorable drapes has had a story behind it.
The wedding saree: a mother's heirloom. For her wedding to Zaheer Iqbal in June 2024, Sonakshi chose a saree that carried family memories. She wore a 44-year-old ivory Chikankari saree that belonged to her mother, Poonam Sinha. The pure silk georgette saree featured delicate hand-embroidered Chikankari work.
The reception saree: a designer statement. For her reception, she opted for a crimson-red Banarasi silk saree from designer Sanjay Garg's label Raw Mango. Called the 'Chand Buta', it was made from pure Katan silk and featured gold crescent and floral motifs with a heavy zari border. She paired it with an emerald-and-gold choker, statement jhumkas and traditional red chura bangles.
