Three Sarees, Three Stories

Sonakshi has often shown her love for the saree, and each of her most memorable drapes has had a story behind it.

The wedding saree: a mother's heirloom. For her wedding to Zaheer Iqbal in June 2024, Sonakshi chose a saree that carried family memories. She wore a 44-year-old ivory Chikankari saree that belonged to her mother, Poonam Sinha. The pure silk georgette saree featured delicate hand-embroidered Chikankari work.

The reception saree: a designer statement. For her reception, she opted for a crimson-red Banarasi silk saree from designer Sanjay Garg's label Raw Mango. Called the 'Chand Buta', it was made from pure Katan silk and featured gold crescent and floral motifs with a heavy zari border. She paired it with an emerald-and-gold choker, statement jhumkas and traditional red chura bangles.

The latest saree: a friend's gift. Now, more than two years later, her return to the drape comes through a gift from Huma Qureshi.

Why It Matters: Sarees as Keepsakes

Seen together, Sonakshi's three most talked-about sarees follow a meaningful pattern. The first came from her mother, the second from a designer she chose for a milestone, and the third from a close friend. Each one connects the outfit to a relationship or a moment, rather than just a trend.

On the Work Front

Sonakshi was recently seen in System, a Prime Video courtroom thriller directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, alongside Jyotika and Ashutosh Gowariker. She plays Neha Rajvansh, a privileged public prosecutor who rises through high-profile cases with the help of a courtroom stenographer, played by Jyotika.

Before that, she appeared in Jatadhara, which released in theatres in November 2025. Her earlier work includes the period drama series Heeramandi and the 2023 thriller series Dahaad.

A saree, a balcony and a friend's gift were all it took. Sonakshi Sinha's latest post shows that for her, the saree remains less about fashion and more about the people and memories attached to it.
