Chef Ranveer Brar and comedian-actor Zakir Khan come from different worlds, food and stand-up comedy, but Brar says they share something deeper. Speaking to IANS in Andheri West during promotions for his new streaming quiz show Yess Chef, Brar described what connects them.
"See, we both come from different places. But the connection between the two of us is like the hungry children of small towns. Zakir is from Indore, I am from Lucknow. And the hunger and persistence of the children of a small town connects us," he said.
Zakir appeared in the premiere episode of Yess Chef.
"A Family Relationship"
Brar said his bond with Zakir extends to his family. "I have a lot of love for his parents. His family loves me a lot," he said.
He shared a recent moment that touched him. "Last night, I got a call from Zakir's father before going to bed at 11:15 pm. He told me that he liked me a lot. He wished me well. He said that I have made such a good show. So, that relationship is like a family relationship. Where there is an unconditional support and love. And I consider myself fortunate to have friends like him."
Why It Matters: The Small-Town Story in Indian Entertainment
Brar's "hungry children of small towns" line captures a theme common to many of today's popular creators. Both he and Zakir built their careers without big-city entertainment connections, relying instead on persistence and a connection with ordinary audiences. Zakir's comedy, rooted in everyday middle-class life, and Brar's warm, story-driven cooking have both resonated with viewers far beyond metros.
That shared background explains why a premiere appearance turned into something more personal: a friendship that now includes a father's late-night call of encouragement.
Brar's Recent Remarks
Earlier, during the same promotions, Brar also advised people to buy fresh vegetables from local markets rather than relying only on 10-minute delivery apps, saying such apps are fine in emergencies but cannot replace the experience of choosing fresh produce.
The Bottom Line
For Ranveer Brar, Yess Chef has brought more than good reviews; it has highlighted a friendship rooted in shared small-town ambition, and a family that cheers him on.
