Satluj, a movie starring Diljit Dosanjh, was released on ZEE5 app on July 3, 2026. However, within 48 hours of release, the movie was banned in India. It has now been reported that the movie is also unavailable on ZEE5 International library.
Satluj, after a few days of being banned in India, has been banned on ZEE5 International as well. This further leads to controversy surrounding the film's certification and release. India Today has reported that Honey Trehan confirmed during her interview that the film had been banned on ZEE5 International when she replied in affirmative. The film had been submitted to CBFC for certification in 2022 but it has not been cleared yet.
"Satluj" has been facing ongoing difficulties since its sudden removal from the OTT platform ZEE5. Just days after its removal from the streaming platform, its IMDb user rating was also removed, further fueling the controversy surrounding the film. The film was originally titled "Punjab '95." The makers had previously alleged that the CBFC had ordered 127 cuts to the film. "Satluj" was scheduled to premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, but its screening was canceled following objections from Indian officials. The film was released on ZEE5 on Friday, July 3rd, without any promotion. The film received widespread praise. It was abruptly removed from streaming platforms on its third day.
The film "Sutlej" is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who exposed alleged illegal cremations and fake encounters in Punjab in the 1980s and 1990s.
