Los Angeles, July 28 — Suri, the 20-year-old daughter of actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has legally dropped her father’s surname and now uses the name Suri Noelle, according to voter registration records.

The change appears in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, voter rolls, where Suri registered during her freshman year at Carnegie Mellon University in October 2024. Noelle is also Katie Holmes’ middle name.

Suri had already used the name Suri Noelle at her high school graduation in June 2024. That same weekend, Tom Cruise was photographed attending Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Cruise and Holmes married in November 2006, a few months after Suri’s birth in April that year, and divorced in 2012.

In August 2024, Holmes spoke briefly about her daughter’s transition to university life in an interview with Town & Country. “I’m proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy,” she said. “I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.”

Later, in December 2024, Holmes publicly rejected reports that Suri had inherited a trust fund from her father.

On the professional front, Tom Cruise is preparing for the release of Digger, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. The film, scheduled for theatrical release on 2 October 2026, casts Cruise as Digger Rockwell, described by Warner Bros. as “the most powerful man in the world” who embarks on a mission to prove he is humanity’s saviour before a disaster he has unleashed destroys everything. The cast includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed and Emma D’Arcy. The project marks Cruise’s first film under a development and production deal with Warner Bros.

Katie Holmes recently appeared in Happy Hours, a romantic dramedy she also wrote and directed. The film, which stars Holmes alongside Joshua Jackson, Mary-Louise Parker, Joe Tippett and Constance Wu, premiered at the Tribeca Festival on 6 June 2026.

The legal name change formalises a preference Suri had already signalled in public settings. While neither Cruise nor Holmes has issued a direct statement on the matter, the voter registration and graduation records provide official confirmation of the new surname.
