In 2025, George Clooney made his stage debut and received a Tony Award nomination for his performance. It was staged from "Good Night, and Good Luck," which aired live all over the world on television. Today, the festival has announced through Instagram that he is to be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Alberto Barbera, the festival's artistic director, said, "George Clooney is an artist who has achieved remarkable success as an actor, director, and producer. He has carved a unique niche in the film industry through his talent and hard work. His work perfectly blends old-fashioned star glamour and modern thinking."
George Clooney expressed his delight at this honor, saying, "I've had many wonderful moments in Venice. This festival is my favorite, and receiving the Golden Lion is a huge honor. Although it may mean I'm getting older, I happily accept it."
George Clooney has previously received several major awards. He won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for "Syriana" (2005). He also won an Oscar as a producer for "Argo" (2012).
The 83rd edition of the Venice Film Festival will run from September 2 to 12, with the full list of films to be announced on July 23.
