Director Kanu Behl Criticises Multiplex Policies; Manoj Bajpayee Urges Fair Chance for Indie Films
Manoj Bajpayee Supports Kanu Behl: Kanu Behl's film 'Agra,' which was acclaimed at film festivals, is not getting shows at multiplex chains. The makers have now expressed their displeasure and blamed so-called big films.
Like every Friday, this year too, a number of films were released. One of them was Kanu Behl's film 'Agra.' This film, which was screened at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and received considerable applause, was released in India on November 14th. As a film by an independent filmmaker, it has not received enough publicity. However, the film's director Kanu Behl has now taken a dig at major multiplex cinema chains, alleging that 'Agra' is not getting enough screens. He cited so-called big films as the reason. Now, veteran actor Manoj Bajpayee has supported Kanu's views.
Producer Kanu Bahl tweeted about the release of the film "Agra." In this tweet, Kanu provided an update on "Agra," writing, "We're being denied shows because so-called 'big blockbusters' and smaller films don't fit into multiplex chain programming. Now it's up to you, the audience. Speak up and tag the chain. Tell them you want to see the film." While Kanu didn't name any films in his tweet, he was referring to these so-called big-star and big-budget commercial films. Among the films released this week, Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan's "De De Pyaar De 2" is a similar big-budget, big-star film.
Manoj Bajpayee has supported Kanu Bahl's views. Manoj Bajpayee retweeted Kanu Bahl's tweet, writing, "It's been a long time since we've been fighting this battle." Indie creators and their art are often overlooked in the broader film industry. Keep it up, Kanu, your efforts truly matter. Everyone should come forward and support small, meaningful cinema and urge their theaters to give these films a fair chance.
