Ahead of ‘Nishanchi’, Anurag Kashyap Criticizes Industry’s Dependence on Safe Projects
Anurag Kashyap On Filmmakers: While Anurag Kashyap has targeted Bollywood producers, he has also praised Mohit Suri. Let's know the whole matter.
A new trend has started in Indian cinema these days, i.e, a re-release. In the last few years, while new films had to struggle to attract the audience, old films managed to do so. People liked these films, like 'Pyaasa' and 'Shri 420', to 90s films like 'Karan Arjun' and 'Andaz Apna Apna' were re-released. Inspired by this, films like 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' and 'Sanam Teri Kasam' were re-released. People on social media believe that Bollywood no longer has new ideas.
However, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has a different opinion. Speaking to ANI, the filmmaker said, 'The real problem is with the producers. Writers and directors have a lot of 'new ideas', but it is the producers who only look for safe projects. They decide what will work and what won't.'
Anurag Kashyap also spoke about how very few filmmakers stick to their stories. Referring to the recently released blockbuster film 'Saiyaara', the filmmaker praised Mohit Suri. He said that he worked on his film even after many producers refused. The film, starring Ahan Panday and Anit Padda, proved to be a hit. He further said, 'Now everyone in the industry will see this change as a trend. This herd mentality is in the producers. The problem is with them.'
Anurag Kashyap is gearing up for his next film 'Nishanchi', a crime drama set in the backdrop of early 2000s Uttar Pradesh. The film stars Aishwarya Thackeray in a double role. Vedika Pinto also plays the lead role. 'Nishanchi' will release in theatres on September 19.
