Few themes in cinema carry the emotional weight of a parent's desperation to protect their child. 'Gandhari' leans fully into that idea, using it as the foundation for a story that moves from quiet domestic normalcy into something far more brutal and unflinching. Kanika Dhillon, who wrote and produced the film, constructs a narrative around a woman who keeps fighting long after every reasonable option has run out.

Taapsee Pannu anchors the film with a performance that demands physical and emotional commitment, while a well-chosen supporting cast and Devashish Makhija's unpolished directorial style push the film beyond a standard revenge-thriller template. It aims to be both a mother's psychological journey and a tense, dangerous confrontation with organized crime. Streaming on Netflix from 3 September, here's a closer look at how it holds up.

Story:

The film opens on an unremarkable family outing. Bani (Taapsee Pannu) is on a train with her husband Gokul (Ishwak Singh) and young daughter Mishti (Myra Shivaan) when tragedy strikes at Joypura station in West Bengal — Gokul briefly steps off the train, and in that narrow window, a stranger snatches Mishti and disappears into the crowd.
