Actor Paresh Rawal has commented on the film ‘OMG 2’ starring Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi. He has mentioned that the plot of the film ‘OMG 2’ was a story conceived by him and the director Amit Rai. However, he did not receive credit for the story and concept of the film. He mentioned that major alterations were made to the plot post the inclusion of Akshay Kumar in it.
In a YouTube conversation with Vicky Lalwani, Paresh Rawal made several revelations about 'OMG 2'. He explained that his original story was a drama centered on a father-son relationship, incorporating themes such as sex education, public humiliation, and a parents' fight for justice.
There was no role for God or any divine character in it, and it was never conceived as a direct sequel to 'OMG'. The most disappointing part is that I wasn't even credited for the story or the concept; my name wasn't mentioned anywhere.
Paresh Rawal also claimed that many people in the industry knew the story's origins. He stated that Amit, Akshay, Ashwin, Ajay Devgn, Karan Johar, and Salman Khan all knew it was his idea and his story.
Perhaps Ajay and Salman declined because of the subject matter; they might have felt it could be controversial. I had tried to explain the concept to them. I had reached out to director Amit Rai, whose film 'Road to Sangam' I really liked.
I had shared my initial idea with him. The story revolves around a school student whose private act is recorded and goes viral, leading to his social ostracization. In the narrative, his father attempts to defend him and challenge the stigma imposed upon the boy.
The actor also revealed that Akshay later asked him to act in the film, but he declined because the story did not align with the version he had helped develop.
"I spoke to Akshay. He asked me to do the film. I told him, 'No. This isn't the film I had envisioned. God has no role in this story.' He tried to persuade me, but I had been deeply involved with the script from the very beginning."
"I knew exactly how it was supposed to be. That is why I stepped away. Ultimately, Pankaj Tripathi played the role of the father, while Akshay appeared as a messenger of Shiva. The film was released in theaters in 2023. It received a positive response from both critics and audiences and was a box-office success."
