Cinema director Rajkumar Hirani will soon make an entry into the world of web series with "Pritam & Pedro," a cybercrime-based comedy-drama. This show is unique in the sense that it features Veer Hirani, the son of the filmmaker in his acting debut. However, getting this part was not easy for him, unlike many other child stars.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Rajkumar Hirani said that when the series was initially being developed, his son's name wasn't considered for casting. "When we started writing, neither Arshad nor Veer were in mind. You don't want to think about the cast while writing because it can get in the way."

At the time, Veer was completing his training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He further said, "I told him to come back from drama school, do theater, and establish himself as an actor by doing interesting work." Veer expressed interest in the role after observing casting discussions at home and in the office. However, his father immediately laid down some rules.

Rajkumar Hirani explained, "I told Veer, 'If you want to audition for this, then do so. Meet Avinash Arun. Convince him, because he's directing it. I can't dictate my mind. Even if it's my series, you have to audition. Don't think that just because you're my son, you'll get the role.'"

Veer took the process seriously. It's said that he rehearsed scenes with a friend every night, recorded multiple audition tapes, and sent only the best ones to the producers. He landed the role purely on his own merit.

Co-written and produced by Rajkumar Hirani and directed by Avinash Arun, "Pritam & Pedro" marks Rajkumar Hirani's debut as a streaming creator. In "Pritam & Pedro," Vir plays Pritam, a tech-savvy cyber expert.

Arshad Warsi plays Pedro, an old-school policeman who is reluctantly posted to the cyber cell. Together, they investigate the kidnapping of a minister's son and face a dangerous cybercriminal played by Vikrant Massey. The series will release on JioHotstar on July 3rd.
