Vijay Sethupathi is considered to be one of the most multi-talented artists of Indian cinema today. He is noted for a perfect balance between highly successful commercial ventures and critically acclaimed works, which helped him establish a good reputation within the sphere of Tamil cinema. Nevertheless, well before becoming an in-demand artist, Vijay Sethupathi revealed that his family had encountered financial difficulties during his childhood.

During the interview on the 'Truly Ram' podcast, Vijay Sethupathi spoke about his childhood. He confessed that being brought up amid scarce financial circumstances made him grow up faster, and poverty played an important role in his early life.

"I witnessed mostly financial struggles during my childhood. People say that youth is often filled with poverty and hardships; I faced this situation from a very young age. That was simply the reality."

"When you want something, you have to calculate how much you desire it, and your financial situation dictates the outcome. Even when debt collectors arrived or discussions took place, I was the one who sat with my father. I was the one who handled those situations."

The actor also revealed that acting was never part of his initial plans. "I had no desire to work in films. I always enjoyed working, but I wanted to be a businessman."

"When I was in school, I worked as a daily wage laborer. Later, I worked at a telephone booth. I struggled a great deal in my life, including working night shifts."

Vijay Sethupathi began his acting career with small and supporting roles. He gained major recognition in 2012 with the films 'Pizza' and 'Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom'.

Subsequently, he carved a niche for himself with films such as 'Soodhu Kavvum', 'Vikram Vedha', '96', 'Super Deluxe', 'Master', 'Vikram', 'Jawan', and 'Maharaja'. In 2023, Vijay made his foray into the OTT space with the crime thriller series 'Farzi', alongside Shahid Kapoor.

Vijay was last seen in the film 'Gandhi Talks'. He has several projects in the pipeline, including 'Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road', which also features Tabu and Samyuktha in pivotal roles. The film's release date has not yet been announced.
