Asim Riaz vs Rubina-Hina: Inside TV's New TRP Turf War
A fresh war of words has broken out in the television industry, with Asim Riaz appearing to respond to pointed criticism from Rubina Dilaik and Hina Khan. While he didn't name either actress directly, his choice of words left little to the imagination, reigniting a debate over who truly drives TRPs on Indian reality television.
Taking to X, Asim referenced a podcast clip he'd apparently come across, writing that "aunties and uncles" from the TV industry were discussing his impact on ratings. His post read: "I saw a clip from a podcast where these aunties and uncles from the TV industry were talking about how I bring TRPs to every reality show. The answer is yes, I do. Best wishes for your career, and keep playing your roles in the industry and keep being a puppet."
The controversy traces back to comments made by Rubina Dilaik on the podcast "The4POV." Rubina called Asim a "troublemaker" and pushed back on his repeated assertions that shows including Bigg Boss, Khatron Ke Khiladi, and Battleground owed their popularity to his participation. Hina Khan, present during the same conversation, echoed Rubina's sentiments, effectively presenting a united front against Asim's claims.
Why It Matters: A Generational Clash on Reality TV
This isn't just a social media spat-it reflects a deeper tension within the reality TV ecosystem. Contestants like Asim Riaz, who built massive followings through shows like Bigg Boss 13, often position themselves as ratings magnets, sometimes at odds with established TV actors who built careers through scripted fiction. The "aunties and uncles" jibe underscores this age and stature gap, with Asim positioning himself as the disruptive new-age star versus what he frames as the old guard.
For audiences, such controversies often translate into free publicity and heightened curiosity around upcoming seasons of the shows involved-raising questions about whether these public spats are organic or strategically timed.
The Himanshi Khurana Factor
Adding another layer to Asim's ongoing media presence is his high-profile fallout with former girlfriend Himanshi Khurana. The two met during their stint on Bigg Boss 13 and dated for nearly four years before announcing their separation in 2023. Asim has denied allegations that he pressured Himanshi to convert to Islam, while Himanshi has since suggested she might reconsider the relationship, claiming she possesses proof relevant to the controversy.
Social media reactions remain divided. While a section of fans back Asim's confidence and TRP claims, calling out perceived gatekeeping from senior TV actors, others see his "puppet" remark as unnecessarily dismissive toward actors with long-standing careers in the industry. Neither Rubina Dilaik nor Hina Khan has issued a direct public response to Asim's latest post at the time of writing.
As the reality TV space grows increasingly competitive, such public exchanges are likely to continue shaping audience perception ahead of new show launches.
