Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor appeared together on the first episode of “Koffee with Karan 9,” sharing stories about their long friendship, their films and their shooting days. The episode, dated October 14, leaned heavily on banter.
Karisma said she has worked with Salman in about 11 films. They shot back-to-back and also did shows together, she said, and her bags were always packed because they were working on several projects at once. Karan Johar said Karisma had told him that when two actors in the industry work together regularly and get along, people start making assumptions about their relationship. Karisma said she was proud of their friendship, and that it was not an affair but a deep bond.
Salman joked that Karisma was lying and that they had an affair. Karisma said he always does this to her and was only giving people something to talk about. He went on to joke that she left him and got married, leaving him heartbroken. She told him to keep quiet. These were jokes on a talk show, and neither actor has claimed any relationship beyond friendship.
How They First Met
Karisma said she was only 16 when “Maine Pyar Kiya” was released and was excited about Salman. She was learning dance from Saroj Khan at the time, while Salman rehearsed for “Baaghi.” One day, she said, he asked if she was Daboo uncle’s daughter, told her he had noticed how hard she worked, and gave her a chocolate. That, she said, is where the friendship began. She added that Salman loves chocolate and would even eat it for breakfast.
The Short Dress Story
Karisma recalled that she wore a short dress for a song in “Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge,” and Salman did not like it. She said she complained to director David Dhawan. Salman gave his own version, saying the dress was too short and kept slipping up, so he asked her to fix it.
Ranbir or Ranveer?
Asked to choose between Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in “Animal” and Ranveer Singh’s in “Dhurandhar,” Salman declined. He said their acting styles are different and cannot be compared, and that both are excellent. He said Ranveer’s work shows tremendous energy and Ranbir’s shows depth and intensity.
Why It Matters
A season premiere built on two longtime co-stars gives the show a nostalgic, low-stakes opening, and the “affair” banter will likely drive clips and headlines. Because it is joking, the distinction between teasing and fact is important, and Karisma’s own clarification is the only direct statement on the record.
