Annu Kapoor Reacts to Satluj Controversy, Says 'Go to the Supreme Court Instead of Complaining'
Annu Kapoor on 'Satluj' Movie: Amidst the ongoing debate surrounding Diljit Dosanjh’s film 'Satluj', actor Annu Kapoor has also shared his opinion. His perspective on the matter differs from that of many others in the industry. Here is what he had to say.
Satluj has been controversial for the past several weeks now. Produced by Honey Trehan, the film had initially been named "Punjab 95". However, the film had to wait for four long years after being delayed by the CBFC before its release on the digital platform ZEE5 on July 3.
However, the film did not even last for two days before being pulled down from the platform under the directive of the government. This decision intensified the debate within the industry regarding censorship and creative freedom.
In a recent interview with 'Kadak', Annu Kapoor stated that if the Censor Board has objections to a film, the makers should approach the Supreme Court. He said, "If that is the case, go straight to the Supreme Court. If the Censor Board hasn't approved the film, knock on the court's door. There is a proper procedure for this. What is the point of crying and complaining?"
Speaking about Diljit, he added, "You worked in the film, and the rules clearly state that if the Censor Board doesn't grant a certificate, you should go to the Supreme Court. Everyone knows it is a controversial subject, yet now you are seeking sympathy from the public. What will come of feeling sorry for yourself? Go to the Supreme Court; what will you gain by crying?"
Annu Kapoor also remarked that when the CBFC refuses to certify a film due to concerns regarding national security or law and order, the matter should be taken seriously. He asked, "Is releasing the film more important, or maintaining peace in the country? Is it more important than arson on the streets, houses burning, and people suffering?" "For me, peace in society is of utmost importance."
'Satluj' is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. He investigated the alleged fake cremations that took place in Punjab during the 1980s and 1990s. The film depicts his struggle and the story leading up to his disappearance in 1995.
