Mouni Roy Breaks Silence on Trolls Over Playing Varun Dhawan's Fake Mother in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai
Mouni Roy on 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai': Mouni Roy responded to playing the role of Varun Dhawan's 'fake' mother in the film 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai'. Find out what she had to say regarding the criticism...
Mouni Roy worked in the movie "Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai," where she had to act as the fake mother of Varun Dhawan under the direction of David Dhawan. She received much criticism and even got trolled in social media over this particular role. However, she took it calmly without being affected by the controversy. Not bothering about all the commotion, she maintained that all she does is her work as the director requires.
Speaking to News18 about her character in the film, Mouni Roy said, "There was nothing I could do about it. The uproar didn't bother me at all. I didn't care what people were saying."
"It became a huge issue-people asking, 'How could the makers do this to me?'-but I knew what I had done in the film. I knew my director was very happy, and everyone I worked with on the film was happy too."
Expressing her happiness at being part of the film, Mouni said, "Initially, I was surprised when I heard about the role. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra called me first. When he told me about the role, my first reaction was the same [surprise]. I asked, 'His mother?' Then I went and heard the story from David Sir and Farhad Samji (the dialogue writer)."
"I burst out laughing. Just imagine Varun calling Manish and saying, 'I don't want a phone call from Mom; I want the mother herself-someone like Nirupa Roy.'" Then the scene cuts, and I walk in, where someone is asking about Jimmy Sir's character, "Isn't she a bit too young for the role of the mother?"
Praising the filmmaker, Mouni expressed her deep admiration for David Dhawan and explained why she didn't pass up this project. The actress said, "I am a huge fan of David Dhawan. His films are like friends to me; watching them brings me comfort."
"He had said that this would be his last film. Also, it was a comedy, and I was attempting the genre for the first time, so I was eagerly looking forward to it. He kept me away from all the promotional activities. That was a wise decision, as it piqued people's curiosity about what role I was playing in the film."
Directed by David Dhawan, 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' features Varun Dhawan alongside Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in lead roles. Additionally, Jimmy Sheirgill, Mouni Roy, Maniesh Paul, Chunky Panday, and Rakesh Bedi play significant roles in the film. The movie has received mixed reactions from critics and has failed to make a significant impact at the box office.
