MUMBAI — Actor Yami Gautam Dhar is set to lead the upcoming fantasy family entertainer Nayyi Navelli, scheduled to release in theaters on October 16, 2026, aligning with the festive Dussehra holiday frame.
The feature marks the first direct collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Aanand L. Rai’s Colour Yellow Productions.
A Supernatural Family Dynamic Set in Meerut
Set against the backdrop of a traditional household in Meerut, Nayyi Navelli explores a high-concept narrative centering on a seemingly picture-perfect bride whose arrival transforms a chaotic family home into an ideal domestic haven. However, the household dynamic takes a suspicious turn when her brother-in-law begins to suspect that the newlywed "ideal bahu" may secretly be a daayan (supernatural force) operating under a flawless facade.
The official social media announcement released on Wednesday offered a glimpse into the tone, accompanied by the tagline: "Nayyi Navelli Dulhan (Daayan)... This Dussehra, get ready for India’s very own fantasy family-entertainer! #NayyiNavelli #BhabhiDaayanHai In Cinemas 16 October 2026."
Directorial and Production Vision
Directed by Balaji Mohan, the screenplay for Nayyi Navelli has been penned by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma. National Award-winning composer G. V. Prakash Kumar has been brought on board to craft the complete original soundtrack, marking his first full-fledged Hindi feature film score.
Producer Aanand L. Rai highlighted the project’s distinct balance of domestic comedy, folklore, and adventure.
