FIR Filed Against Vivek Agnihotri Over ‘The Bengal Files’; Director Says Allegations Based on Guesses, Will Respond Legally

Vivek Agnihotri recently held the trailer launch party of his forthcoming film 'The Bengal Files' in Kolkata, in which there was tremendous commotion. The movie is controversial, and numerous FIRs have been filed against the director. Shantanu Mukherjee, who is the grandson of Gopal Mukherjee, a renowned Bengali warrior who ended the riots in the year 1946, has also lodged an FIR against Vivek Agnihotri. Shantanu has also charged the director of badmouthing his grandfather in the film. Vivek Agnihotri has responded to these types of allegations.

A police complaint has been filed against Vivek Agnihotri for portraying Gopal Mukherjee, a prominent Bengali warrior who played a key role in stopping the riots against Hindus in 1946, in the film 'The Bengal Files'. The complaint has been filed by Gopal Mukherjee's grandson, Shantanu Mukherjee, who has alleged that the film tarnishes his grandfather's identity. Reacting to these allegations in a conversation with news agency ANI, Vivek said, 'No one in India has seen the film yet. Guesses are being made without seeing the film. The filmmaker further said that he had spoken to Mukherjee's grandson over the phone, but since the matter has now taken a legal turn, he will respond legally'.

Vivek Agnihotri said, 'Nobody knows what has been shown in the film? People are guessing. It is not so. I have spoken to his grandson over the phone. I do not want to get into this. He has taken the legal route, so we will also respond legally'. Vivek Agnihotri further said that in his opinion, Gopal Mukherjee was a hero. Vivek Agnihotri said that before this film very few people in India knew about Mukherjee, but this film will ensure that 'every child in India recognises him as a brave warrior'.
