Hollywood series became inspiration for 'Black Warrant', producer visited Tihar Jail
Vikramaditya Motwane: Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane discussed his upcoming series 'Black Warrant'. He talked about the technology and inspiration behind its production.
Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane's upcoming series 'Black Warrant' will soon be released on Netflix. Jahan Kapoor, who belongs to the Kapoor family, is making his debut with this series. Recently, producer Vikramaditya said that he has used 'fly on the wall' technology to show the world present within the walls of Tihar Jail in the show. The show is based on the book 'Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer' by former Tihar Superintendent Sunil Gupta and journalist Sunetra Choudhary.
Vikramaditya Motwane talked about his upcoming series 'Black Warrant' in a conversation with PTI and shed light on the process of making it. He said, "I constantly told my crew that you are a 'fly on the wall' (it is an English phrase, which means to see things without being noticed). You are peeping into someone's room and feel like you are enjoying whatever is happening on the screen. This has been the main mantra throughout."
Vikramaditya Motwane has produced series like 'Sacred Games'. The producer said, "I am a student and lover of contemporary history and I like to shed light on it in an interesting, entertaining, and engaging way. This is my approach to everything. I love filmmaking and I am up for the challenge of doing something new every time."
To show the real world of the prison, the filmmaker visited Tihar Jail and spoke to Gupta to get information about the daily functioning of the jail, including trivia about prisoners paying for water or gangs inside the jail.
The producer said, "There is something strange about seeing the prison. Out of 99.99 percent of the population, 00.01 percent people will never go inside the prison, but what happens inside, how are the people? Are they all criminals? Is there any positive aspect to it?" Vikramaditya said that American filmmaker David Fincher's series 'Mindhunter' served as a small inspiration for the creation of this series.
'Black Warrant' is based on true events. This prison drama series revolves around Gupta, who along with his two trusted fellow jailers face the notorious prisoners of Tihar and the deep-rooted politics of the 1980s. The series will stream on Netflix on January 10.
