Kajol Recalls the Moment She Realised DDLJ Had Become a Blockbuster

Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan’s all-time blockbuster film "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" completed 30 years of its release this year. The event was organized in London recently where statues of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol pertaining to the film have been unveiled. Now, the actress of the film has disclosed the time when she realized that the film had achieved massive success.

Speaking at the Just Too Filmy Best of OTT Roundtable 2025, Kajol recalled the 30th anniversary of DDLJ. Regarding the film's success, the actress said that sometimes, beyond the box office figures, a film's unexpected success surprises you. Kajol also spoke about the moment she realized the film had truly become a blockbuster. The actress laughed and said, "I was coming back from Film City and stopped at a signal. A truck pulled up next to me, and the driver just looked at me. That's when I realized, 'Okay, something has really touched me.'"

At the unveiling of the DDLJ statue in London's Leicester Square to mark the film's 30th anniversary, Kajol said the honor still feels incredible. "We shot the film there, and now seeing the statue there is incredible. It shows how far our stories reach."

Talking about her OTT journey, the actress said that not only have her tastes changed, but audiences have too. She said that women are now seeing themselves differently. When they recognize parts of themselves on screen, it becomes much more appealing. More women are watching, more women are connecting, and that's changing the way storytelling is told."

On the work front, Kajol was last seen in the second season of the web series "The Trial," which is streaming on Jio Hotstar. She also appeared in the OTT-released film "Sarzameen." Her film "Maa" also released theatrically this year. However, this horror-mythology film was not a huge success.
