Nana told the story of his days of struggle when he got five rupees for massaging Ashok Saraf's feet

Marathi films have given many talented artists. One of them is Ashok Saraf. He is famous as 'Mahanayak', 'Ashok Samrat' and 'Mama'. Prior to joining the silver screen, he used to work in theatre. Apart from providing good films in Marathi films, he has done many films in Hindi such as Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Koyla, Gupt, Yes Boss, and Singham. He is a close friend of Nana Patekar. Nana Patekar has narrated an anecdote related to him.

Ashok Saraf preceded Nana Patekar in starting his career. Both of them did numerous shows in the theatre together. Ashok Saraf was already quite popular, while Nana Patekar struggled. Ashok Saraf was there to support Nana Patekar in his struggling time.

In a program, Nana Patekar told an anecdote about his friendship with Ashok Saraf. According to the Times of India, Nana Patekar said that whenever Ashok Saraf used to go somewhere for a play, before that, Nana Patekar used to massage his feet and head. In return, Ashok used to give him 5 rupees.

Ashok Saraf earned 250 rupees from the play 'Hamidabai Chi Kothi' while Nana Patekar earned 50 rupees. Both used to play cards in their free time. Saraf used to lose deliberately in the game, so that he could give some money to Nana Patekar. Nana Patekar knew about this, but due to financial constraints, he used to take the money.

Once when Nana Patekar suddenly needed money, Ashok went to Nana Patekar's house with a blank cheque. Ashok Saraf told Nana Patekar that he had Rs 15000 in his account, he could withdraw as much as he wanted. Nana Patekar withdrew Rs 3000 at that time. Ashok Saraf has not asked for that money from Nana Patekar till date.
