Neeraj Ghaywan Breaks Silence on Compensation Allegations, Issues Statement on X

The film "Homebound," directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, is currently in the news. The film was released in theaters on September 26th. Neeraj Ghaywan is accused of undercompensating the family from whom his film is inspired. Neeraj Ghaywan has responded to this matter. He has written a post on X.

Reports claimed that Neeraj Ghaywan only compensated the family 10,000 rupees. In response to this, Neeraj has written a lengthy note on X. In it, the filmmaker has called the claim misleading. Neeraj Ghaywan wrote in the post, "Some of you have expressed concern about reports claiming that the family whose lives inspired 'Homebound' was compensated with a mere 10,000 rupees. I want to clarify that this amount was a symbolic sum that I offered to Ram Charan during my initial research many years ago."

He further wrote, "Please do not mistake this for the full compensation amount. Neither I nor the producers would underestimate such a profound story. The family's support is a huge blessing to me. We have honored their trust in the story. They have expressed their happiness with me about this. I don't want to mention the figures personally, as it would disrespect my relationship with Amrit and Saiyub, the real heroes of 'Homebound.'"

The film 'Homebound' depicts the childhood friendship between a Muslim and a Dalit. Both aspire to become police officers to gain respect in society. It stars Ishaan Khattar, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor. It is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, and Martin Scorsese. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.
