The inaugural session of the First World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (Waves) has begun in Mumbai from today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the Waves Summit yesterday today. Big national and international personality guests are attending the four-day summit. Renowned Indian film and television industry personalities are also attending here. In this segment, there has been a big announcement regarding the content and creative industry people. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has declared the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) for India's creative and digital media industry.

The IICT Institute will function as a national excellence hub of the AVGC-XR industry. The country will transition to emerging as a hub of the world in the visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC-XR) industry. In a significant milestone of India's creative and digital media industry, the launch of IICT was announced by the Minister of Information and Broadcasting at the Waves Summit of 2025 on Thursday.

Announcing IICT, Ashwini Vaishnav said that it has already started work. It was also told that some technology and media giants are collaborating with IICT. He said that big technology companies like NVIDIA, Google, Apple, Meta, Adobe, Microsoft and Star India are collaborating in IICT. These seven companies will be helpful in making the institute better.

IICT is being established by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with FICCI and CII. It can be understood that IIICT will be established as a national centre of excellence on the lines of the prestigious IITs and IIMs. It will provide opportunities to new talents and will help them move forward. This will make India a global hub in the AVGC-XR sector. It will also strengthen the country's creative economy. IICT will work as a catalyst for the entertainment industry and will strengthen it at the global level. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has allocated Rs 400 crore for this institute. At the same time, the Maharashtra government has provided land.
