Actress Pallavi Sharda has shared a heartfelt reflection on her bond with India. Posting photos from her 2025–26 trips to Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Mumbai, Kerala and more, she wrote on Instagram:

“STORY TIME? INDIA RELOADED... The place that I longed for while sitting on the school asphalt on a hot summers day in Australia…even though I had not experienced her. The place I called home for my first decade out of the adolescent womb.”

Going Against the Flow

“Often migrants migrate out of India at that age. I migrated from Australia towards her. I am still integrating what it was and how it unfolded,” she wrote.

“Each trip back is a new window & a reminder of how existing in a dream-chasing portal was simultaneously the most difficult obstacle yet the greatest gift I encountered. And yet she ignites my absolute aliveness.”

She ended her note with a hint that more may be coming. “I read so many DMS asking me to talk more about that time. Maybe I’m finally ready to,” she wrote, suggesting she may soon open up about her early years of chasing a film career in Mumbai.

Why It Matters: A Rare Reverse Migration

Pallavi was born in Perth to Indian parents who had moved to Australia in the early 1980s, and grew up in Melbourne. Trained in the classical dance form Bharatanatyam, she moved to Mumbai around 2008–2010 to pursue films, taking a path opposite to the one many young Indians take. She also won the Miss India Australia title in 2010.

Her story stands out because the usual migration story runs the other way. For many in the Indian diaspora, India is the place their parents left; for Pallavi, it was the place she chose. That is also why fans are curious to hear more about “that time.”

A Career Across Four Countries

That choice shaped a career spanning India, Australia, the UK and the US.

Year Work Industry
2010 My Name Is Khan Hindi
2013 Besharam (opposite Ranbir Kapoor) Hindi
2015 Hawaizaada Hindi
2016 Lion (with Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman) International
2017 Begum Jaan Hindi
2019 Beecham House (Gurinder Chadha) British TV
2022 Wedding Season (lead role) Netflix
2022 The Twelve Australian TV

What’s Next: Stay

Pallavi recently shared the announcement of her next film, Stay, a French-Indian romance. She plays Sailee, a recently divorced woman in India groomed to take over her father’s company, who falls for Leo, a delivery driver dreaming of becoming an actor, during a trip to Paris. Their relationship is tested by family pressure, class differences and cultural realities.

The project fits her journey well: like Pallavi herself, its story moves between cultures and countries.

The Bottom Line

For Pallavi Sharda, India was a dream before it became a home. And if her latest post is any sign, fans may soon hear the full story of how that dream unfolded.
