Actor Soori’s next film, tentatively called Soori7, went on floors with a pooja ceremony in Chennai. Riding on the success of Mandaadi, the actor will play the lead for the seventh time.
The film is directed by Ravikumar, known for the Tamil hits Indru Netru Naalai and Ayalaan, and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. Rajisha Vijayan plays the female lead.
Friends and Filmmakers at the Launch
Actor Sivakarthikeyan clapped the board for the first shot, while Mandaadi producer Elred Kumar switched on the camera. The ceremony drew several well-known names, including directors Vetri Maaran, Mithran, Nalan Kumarasamy, Mathi Maran and A.R.K. Saravanan, Lyca Productions’ Tamil Kumaran, and Bejoy Arputharaj of Phantom Films.
Why It Matters: A Remarkable Second Act
Soori’s journey is one of Tamil cinema’s most striking transformations. For years, he was known mainly as a comedian, often sharing the screen as a sidekick to stars like Sivakarthikeyan. His turn as a lead actor in Vetri Maaran’s Viduthalai changed that, and he has since built a run of lead roles.
That makes the launch special: Sivakarthikeyan, his frequent co-star from his comedy days, gave the first clap, and Vetri Maaran, the director who first trusted him with a lead role, was in attendance. The director, Ravikumar, also worked with Sivakarthikeyan on Ayalaan.
“Soori’s growth as a lead actor has been phenomenal, and that places an even greater responsibility on my shoulders,” Ravikumar said.
Mythri’s Tamil Expansion
The film also marks Mythri Movie Makers’ growing presence in Tamil cinema. Producer Naveen Yerneni, who flew to Chennai despite the release of Ranabaali, said, “Following the success and response to Good Bad Ugly, Dude, Modha Rathri and Irumudi in Tamil, I am even more excited about producing more films in the language.”
He added that he was moved by “the brotherhood between Sivakarthikeyan and Soori.”
What’s Next
The film’s title, remaining cast, crew and shooting schedule will be announced soon.
From comic sidekick to bankable lead, Soori’s rise continues with Soori7, launched with the blessings of the friends who were part of his journey.
