Live Updates: Bollywood Pays Tribute to Nana Patekar
Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Riteish Deshmukh, Jr NTR and others pay emotional tributes to Nana Patekar, who died in Goa at 75.

Actor Ali Fazal has shared an emotional tribute to Nana Patekar, recalling a promise that will now remain unfulfilled. Sharing a picture with the late actor, Ali wrote, "Nana, where do i begin.. just a few weeks ago you said, you'll come home to bless my daughter.. i am heartbroken today on hearing news of you leaving us like this."
He called Nana's death "a dent in world cinema and a chance missed for all the actors who never got a chance to share notes with you on screen."
"One of the Best Meals I've Had"
Ali also remembered a personal moment. "I still remember how fondly you cooked for me in your home.. one of the best meals ive had," he wrote.
"Your aura and your personality resonated far beyond your acting skills. I know how much you cared for this country. We will miss you dearly. Thank you being the guiding light.. our conversations remain undone.. but i know this - where ever you are, that world is going to be lucky to have you.. take care sir," he added, signing off, "With love, Ali."
A Host Who Fed His Friends
Ali's memory echoes several other tributes today, many of which return to Nana's kitchen. Smriti Irani shared a video of Nana cooking fish fry for her, while Prakash Raj, who directed Ali and Nana in Tadka, remembered "the food you cooked" among his cherished moments. Together, these tributes paint a picture of a man who expressed affection not through grand words, but by cooking for the people he cared about.

Salman Khan
Salman Khan has paid an emotional tribute to Nana Patekar, who died in Goa on Thursday at the age of 75. The actor shared a black-and-white photograph of Nana on his Instagram Story with a short message: "Nanaaaaaaaaaa Rest in peace bhau..."
The stretched-out name and the affectionate "Bhau," a word used for an elder brother in Marathi, said more than a long note could.
Remembering Khamoshi
Salman and Nana shared the screen in Khamoshi: The Musical, released on August 9, 1996. The film was Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial debut.
Set in Goa, it told the story of Joseph and Flavy Braganza, a deaf couple, and their daughter Annie, played by Manisha Koirala. Nana played Joseph, while Salman played Raj, the musician Annie falls in love with. When Joseph learns of their romance, he asks Annie to leave home, making Nana's character the emotional heart of the conflict.
Manisha Koirala
Manisha, who co-starred with Nana in Khamoshi: The Musical, wrote, "Deeply saddened by the passing of a great actor, a remarkable presence and a true stalwart of the craft. His contribution to cinema and his dedication to his craft will always be remembered. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti."

Shah Rukh Khan has shared an emotional tribute to Nana Patekar on his official handle, recalling how nervous he was at their first meeting. He kept fiddling with his hair until Nana swatted his hand away and told him, "Hero ki tarah baal mat bana... tu actor hai."
SRK described him as blunt and honest, a man who told you what you needed to hear rather than what you wanted to. "He was a mentor, a teacher, a critic and a friend," he wrote, adding that Nana's affection usually arrived after a round of scolding, and that he beat everyone at carrom and enjoyed every win.
He said he wished for one more conversation, another cup of tea and a game of carrom, and that he would carry Nana's advice with him: "Hero banne ke chakkar mein actor mat khona."
The two worked together in "Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman" (1992), which also starred Juhi Chawla.

Actor Mukesh Rishi has remembered Nana Patekar as an intense performer and "a great man" away from the camera, recalling their time together on "Kohram".
Speaking to IANS, Rishi said the two stayed in the same hotel during the shoot in Katra, Jammu, where Nana lived like an ordinary man once work wrapped. On Rishi's birthday, Nana handed him Rs 100 as a gift, and would cook alongside Rishi's wife, telling her to make rajma her way while he made it his.
Rishi said Nana's occasional irritation on set came from his strong sense of discipline: arrive on time, start on time, waste no time. "He was a man of nature. He lived like himself," he said.
Rajinikanth
"I can't believe my dear friend Nanaji is no longer with us. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace."
Hrithik Roshan
"Rest in peace, dear Nana Sir. Thank you for giving us such authentic and entertaining cinema. Your hard-hitting performances, effortless comic timing and unforgettable characters will always be an inspiration. Watching your genius onscreen while growing up was a masterclass."
Anupam Kher
Anupam Kher received the news right after a stage performance. "I had just finished our performance and taken the curtain call. As I walked into the wings, my director Gajendra told me, 'Nana is no more.'" He said Nana would have wanted him to finish his work, and recalled his blunt style: "अरे, तो क्या हो गया? मर गया तो कौन-सी बड़ी बात है? सभी मरते हैं!" (So what? What's the big deal if someone dies? Everyone dies!) "That was Nana. Direct, unpretentious... Though today, I wish I could simply hug you one more time."
Sanjay Dutt
"It's still hard to believe that my brother, my friend Nana is no longer with us... We have lost a remarkable actor, a great artist and a truly special human being."
Chiranjeevi
The Telugu megastar said Nana left "an indelible mark on Indian cinema," adding, "Beyond the screen, his compassion for farmers and his service through his Foundation reflected his commitment to helping those in need."
Actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty has paid tribute to Nana Patekar, calling him a close friend whose simplicity stood out both on and off screen.
Speaking to IANS, Mithun said he often visited Nana at his home in Pune. "He was a very good friend of mine. We used to go to his house," he said.
He also recalled running into him at an airport once, remembering him as a fine actor who dressed simply and lived without fuss despite his stature in the industry. The two shared screen space in films including "Sagar Sangam".
