Protest Against Kingdom: Vijay Deverakonda's recent release 'Kingdom' has suddenly got embroiled in controversies and there is a demand to ban the film. Know what is the whole matter.

Tamil star Vijay Deverakonda's movie 'Kingdom', which has been dubbed into Hindi as 'Samrajya', is playing in cinemas these days. The movie is doing business a bit slowly at the box office. Meanwhile, this movie had to endure protests in regions such as Madurai and Trichy in Tamil Nadu. Pro-Tamil politicians also called for the banning of the film, condemning the supposed misrepresentation of Sri Lankan Tamils.
Members of the pro-Tamil party 'Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK)' protested 'Kingdom' at theatres in Trichy and called for a ban on screening the film. NTK state propaganda secretary Saravanan claimed that the film is an insult to the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) warriors and the Ezham Tamils. They fought for 30 years and were martyred, but they are shown as slaves living in the hilly areas.
This is an attempt to distort historical facts and we cannot allow this. They have not got justice till now, and many people are still missing. The name Tamil Katchi cannot do such things that hurt them. The protesters also met a prominent theater manager of the district, after which the banners of 'Kingdom' were removed.
Amid growing protests against the film, film distributors in Tamil Nadu have approached the Madras High Court demanding police protection. After which the matter is now becoming bigger.
Directed by Gautham Tinnanuri, 'Kingdom' is a Telugu film starring Vijay Deverakonda, Satyadev and Venkatesh in the lead roles. Set in Sri Lanka, the film is the story of a cop-turned-detective who later becomes the savior of the Divi tribe. The film has been dubbed in Tamil, Malayalam and other languages and is releasing in theatres from July 31.
