Interestingly, Jaidev also noted that despite their professional association, he hadn't met Yash in person since the film's release, having only connected with him twice over the phone.
Yash's Reassuring Words
According to Jaidev, it was during one of these phone conversations that Yash offered him grounded, reassuring advice, encouraging him to detach from the criticism and focus on the bigger picture. Recalling Yash's words, Jaidev said, "Yash said, 'Don't take it to heart. The film is done, it's released, now we'll leave it to the audience. It's their choice. We made this film with all our dedication and handed it over to the audience. That's it. Don't overthink it. Get ready, there's more work to be done. Understood? See you soon.'"
Why It Matters: The Human Side of Big Releases
This exchange offers a rare, humanizing glimpse into the pressures faced by those working on major film projects, beyond just the lead actors. While box office numbers and public reception often dominate post-release conversations, Jaidev's account highlights the emotional weight carried by supporting collaborators-dub artists, technicians, and crew members-whose contributions are often overlooked amid broader critical discourse.
Notably, Jaidev also observed that despite Yash's composed and encouraging tone, "his voice echoed the pain for the film," suggesting that even the film's lead star wasn't entirely unaffected by its mixed critical reception, despite its commercial success.
'Toxic' at the Box Office: A Strong Start, Followed by a Slowdown
Commercially, "Toxic" had a notably strong start, crossing the ₹200 crore mark in India within its first week of release-a clear indicator of substantial opening demand. However, the film's momentum reportedly slowed during its second week, a common pattern for big-ticket releases that rely heavily on opening weekend hype.
As of the latest figures, "Toxic" has accumulated a total box office collection of ₹338 crore, reflecting a solid overall run despite the mid-run slowdown and mixed critical reception.
About the Film
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, "Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups" has been one of the more talked-about releases in recent months, generating strong initial box office numbers even as its critical reception remained divided.
Industry Takeaway
Jaidev Mohan's candid reflection sheds light on an often-overlooked aspect of major film releases-the personal and emotional impact of public criticism on those working behind the scenes. His account, paired with Yash's grounded advice, underscores a broader industry truth: even amid commercial success, the emotional experience of a film's reception can vary significantly among those involved, extending well beyond the lead cast.
