MUMBAI — Bollywood star and international style icon Sonam Kapoor made a definitive sartorial statement on Wednesday evening, gracing an exclusive high-jewellery showcase in Mumbai clad in a bespoke black drape and statement gem-studded neckwear.

The actor, widely recognized as one of Indian cinema's most influential fashion figures, arrived at the venue wearing a black fluid saree anchored by gold and earth-toned metallic embroidery along the borders and pallu. The drape featured intricate motifs reminiscent of mid-century Indian textile craft, paired with a matching structured blouse detailing subtle gold sleeve striping.

Accessorizing the ensemble, Kapoor wore a layered high-jewellery neckpiece featuring brilliant-cut diamonds and colored gemstones, accompanied by drop earrings and stacked solitaire rings. She completed the look with a slicked-back center-parted bun and dewy, luminous makeup—a signature aesthetic refined over years of global red-carpet appearances.

Kapoor’s ongoing sartorial output remains deeply tied to her long-standing creative alliance with her sister, producer and celebrity stylist Rhea Kapoor. The sister duo has systematically shaped modern red-carpet styling in India, seamlessly blending contemporary global couture with traditional handloom textiles.

Beyond fashion curation, the sisters have established a successful film production partnership under their home banner. Their collaborative portfolio includes the hit ensemble comedies Aisha (2010), Khoobsurat (2014), and Veere Di Wedding (2018). Aisha, in particular, served as a pivotal pop-culture landmark, establishing Kapoor as a quintessential fashion icon early in her career.

Since her debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2007 romance Saawariya, Kapoor has compiled a diverse filmography across mainstream and indie cinema, including critical hits such as Raanjhanaa, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Delhi-6, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, and Sanju. Her dramatic portrayal of heroic flight attendant Neerja Bhanot in the 2016 biographical drama Neerja earned her a National Film Award.

Off-screen, Kapoor balances her professional commitments with family life in Mumbai and London alongside her husband, entrepreneur Anand Ahuja. The couple, who married in May 2018, are parents to two sons—Vayu, born in August 2022, and Rudralokh, whom they welcomed in March 2026.
