Music director AR Rahman recently sparked a controversy when he said that he received less work in the last eight years. He hinted that this might be because of the increase in the communal atmosphere in the Hindi film industry. His statement received mixed reactions from the people in the industry, but now director Ram Gopal Varma has given his verdict on the issue.

In an interview with Faridoon Shahryar's podcast, Ram Gopal Varma said, "I really don't want to comment on the communal angle because I don't believe in it. The film industry is all about making money. They will go after whoever makes money for them." It doesn't matter to them whether you're from a particular caste, religion, or place of origin.' He further added, 'Filmmakers are attracted to people who consistently deliver box-office hits.'

Ram Gopal Varma also clarified that he isn't dismissing Rahman's personal experiences. He said, 'I can't talk about Rahman because I don't know what he's been through. It's possible something special happened to him. Without knowing that, I can't make any judgments.'

It's worth noting that in a recent interview with BBC Asian, AR Rahman said, 'There's been a power shift in the last eight years. Now, power is with people who aren't creative. This could be a communal thing... but it hasn't happened in front of me.'
