According to Mumbai Police, a total fraud of approximately ₹47 lakh has been detected in this case, with the actress and several others reportedly affected.
According to the police investigation, the accused posed as a builder and film producer and promised attractive returns on investment in a construction project. Some people associated with the entertainment industry were lured into this offer. Based on this trust, Varsha Usgaonkar and others transferred large sums of money to the accused.
The incident took place in the last of 2019 or the beginning of 2020. The accused was returning the money at first, but then stopped. When the people who invested in his firm tried to contact him, his phone was not reachable.
The case was registered by Marathi theatre and film actress Mrinalini Subhash. She claims that the accused tried to intimidate her when she asked for her money. Following this incident, a case was registered at the Shivaji Park Police Station in Mumbai.

The accused's name is said to be Avinash Jadhav. Police are also investigating whether this man has similarly defrauded others in the name of investments. A thorough investigation into the financial crime angle is currently underway.
