The wait is over for fans of Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela. T-Series has announced that Anurag Basu’s untitled film starring the pair will release in cinemas on April 30, 2027.

“A new story which will stay in your heart is ready to unfold on the big screen,” the makers wrote.

What We Know About the Film

The film is a musical, described as an intense love story exploring love, longing and destiny. Its first look, unveiled in February 2025, showed Kartik in a rugged avatar with thick stubble and ruffled hair, playing the guitar at a concert. The film has music by Pritam, and is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar under T-Series.

A Long Road to the Big Screen

The film was originally planned for Diwali 2025, but its release was pushed back. In 2025, Basu dismissed rumours that it was being rewritten to avoid similarities with the hit romance Saiyaara, telling Mid Day that his story was different. Parts of the film have been shot in Sikkim.

The film has also stayed untitled for a reason. It was once positioned as a successor to Aashiqui 2, but the rights to the Aashiqui franchise lie with another production house, so the makers have not used the name.

Why It Matters: A Crucial Year for Kartik

The April date gives Kartik a packed 2027:

Film Release
Naagzilla February 12, 2027
Anurag Basu’s untitled film April 30, 2027
Captain India August 13, 2027

Kartik comes into this phase as a National Award winner, having shared the Best Actor honour at the 72nd National Film Awards for Chandu Champion. However, his most recent release, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, did not perform well at the box office. A heartfelt musical with a filmmaker known for emotional storytelling could be an important comeback in the genre that first made him a star of romantic films.

For Anurag Basu, whose films include Barfi! and the Metro films, it is a return to the music-led storytelling he is known for.

What About Sreeleela?

The film was earlier expected to mark Sreeleela’s Hindi film debut. However, reports suggest she may first appear in Diler with Ibrahim Ali Khan, depending on how release dates fall.

After delays and speculation, Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela’s musical love story finally has a date. All that’s left now is a title, and the songs that could make it Kartik’s big romantic comeback.
