This year marks the 40th anniversary of the iconic film "Top Gun." In order to mark the anniversary, Paramount Pictures has announced a limited theatrical release in India.

A theatrical event featuring "Top Gun" and its recently released sequel "Top Gun: Maverick" will take place across India from May 15. The main hero of the film, Tom Cruise as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, will return to the screen.

Released in 1986, "Top Gun" was a superhit. The film features intense action sequences, aerial battles and dogfights, and the glamorous lives of US Air Force pilots. The film tells the story of a group of talented Navy pilots at the fighter weapons school known as Top Gun, who push their aircraft and each other's capabilities to the limit in their quest to become the best.

Directed by the late Tony Scott, the film starred Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, Kelly McGillis, Meg Ryan, and Tom Skerritt in supporting roles. It played a key role in Tom Cruise's rise to superstardom.

Tom Cruise returns to the cockpit after 36 years in "Top Gun: Maverick." In the sequel, Maverick returns to Top Gun after more than 30 years of service and trains a group of new graduates for a special mission.

"Top Gun: Maverick" grossed over $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office, becoming the No. 1 film of 2022 and the highest-grossing film in Paramount Pictures' history.

"Top Gun: Maverick" was directed by Joseph Kosinski and stars Tom Cruise, along with Taylor, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer. A third installment in the franchise was recently announced, with Tom Cruise set to return.
