For her role in "Akale," she received the Kerala State Film Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Malayalam Actress.

After her last film, "Nammal Thammil," in 2009, Geetu ventured into filmmaking and directed her first Malayalam short film, "Kelkunnudo," that same year. The film premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival and won three international awards for Best Short Film. In 2013, Geetu made her directorial debut with the feature film "Liar's Dice," which won two National Film Awards. Not only this, this film became India's official entry for the 87th Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
