Bhaarath and Niranjan built their audience on YouTube. They now have a fixed date for their first film in theatres. On Friday, the makers of 'Mr Bhaarath' released the film's trailer and announced that it will now hit screens on December 11 this year.
Passion Studios, one of the film's production houses, shared the trailer link on its social media pages with the line, "The wait is over! #MrBhaarath Trailer Out Now."
The trailer opens with a doctor speaking to Bhaarath's grandfather. He explains that the young man sees the world differently from everyone else. The doctor says Bhaarath's reactions are not technically wrong, but they are not what people would expect from an ordinary person. He sums him up with one line: "He is simply God's masterpiece."
The rest of the trailer leans into that idea. Bhaarath takes everything at face value. In one scene, a rowdy-sheeter named Kanal Kannan confronts him and tries to show off his reputation: "Ask anybody in Kodambakkam who Kanal Kannan is and they will tell you who I am." Bhaarath doesn't reply. He simply sets off for Kodambakkam to ask around.
During all this, he falls for Veni (Samyuktha Viswanathan). A conversation with Bala Saravanan's character sums up the hero best: "I have a problem for every solution, Saravana!" That reversed line looks set to drive much of the film's comedy.
Why the Move From October 1 Made Sense
'Mr Bhaarath' was first meant to release on October 1. The makers pushed it back because several promising films were releasing on the same date. "A little pause before the big theatrical laughter therapy!" they said at the time. They added that they wished the other films "a blockbuster theatrical run."
For a debut film starring internet personalities, the choice of release date can matter a great deal. A crowded weekend can push a small film out of theatres before word of mouth builds. Choosing a quieter date gives 'Mr Bhaarath' a better chance to find its audience, which is how its makers became popular online in the first place.
The film has also had strong support from the industry. Lokesh Kanagaraj presents it, and it is produced by Sudhan Sundaram, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Jagadish Palanisamy under the Passion Studios, G Squad and The Route banners. When shooting wrapped in July last year, Sundaram said the young team's "clarity and commitment have been truly commendable." He added that they finished the full shoot on schedule.
The cast also includes Nidhi Pradeep, R. Sunder Rajan, Linga and Adithya Kathir. On the technical side, Om Narayan is the cinematographer, Dhivakar Dennis the editor and Pranav Muniraj the music composer. Bhavna Govardan is the art director, Navadevi Rajkumar designed the costumes, Suren G and Azhagiyakoothan handled sound, Azhar did the choreography and Amrin Abubakar coordinated the stunts.
Many creators are now moving from short online videos to full-length films. 'Mr Bhaarath' will test whether a following built on YouTube can turn into ticket sales. The answer comes on December 11.
