Music director AR Rahman recently got into a controversy because of his comment on Bollywood being affected by communalism. After Rahman’s comment, many Bollywood personalities have opposed Rahman’s statement, while some have also supported Rahman’s controversial comment. Recently, music director Ismail Darbar has also given his views on Rahman’s controversial comment. Read what music director Ismail Darbar has to say on Rahman’s controversial comment.

Recently, composer Ismail Darbar gave an interview on Sushojit Ghosh's YouTube channel. In it, he expressed his objection to Rahman's controversial comment. He says, "If the industry had been communal, then no Muslim would have become a star in this country. There wouldn't have been Ismail Darbar, Naushad, or Dilip Kumar. If that had been the case, he (Rahman) wouldn't have become a star." Composer Ismail Darbar has taken a sharp dig at Rahman.

While many people were criticizing Rahman, singer Amaal Malik came to his defense. Recently, on Faridoon Shahryar's YouTube channel, Amaal Malik addressed Rahman's controversial remarks. He said, "From an industry perspective, what he (Rahman) said is largely correct. However, I don't agree with the communal angle. Forget nepotism and groupism. Today, every music label is comfortable working with its own artists. The industry promotes artists who bring them revenue." Now, production houses and music labels are the real decision makers.

About a month ago, in an interview with BBC Asian, musician Rahman explained the reason for his limited work, saying, "For the past eight years, I've felt that talent doesn't provide work in the industry. The music industry is in the hands of people who are neither creative nor understand creativity. Religion is also a reason for my limited work. People don't say anything to your face, but whisper behind your back." Rahman believes that he's gradually seeing communal sentiments taking over the film and music worlds. He sees this impacting his work as well.
