Singer Mangali Apologises Over ‘Sarke Chunar’ Row, Promises New Version
Lyricist Raqib Alam says, "I warned the filmmakers about this." NCW issues summons to Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt in "Sarke Chunar" controversy
After the uproar over the vulgar lyrics in the song "Sarke Chunar," singer Mangali has apologized, saying that no one intended to hurt anyone's sentiments. The Telugu folk singer wrote on Instagram that the lyrics will be changed and a second version will be released soon.
She said, "Respecting public sentiment, the song has been removed from all platforms. I sincerely apologize to all of you for this inadvertent mistake. We did not intend to hurt anyone's sentiments. We regret this oversight." The Hindi version of the song was released earlier this week.
Its alleged vulgar lyrics have sparked controversy. The issue was also raised in Parliament, where the government stated that the song had already been banned. Actress Nora Fatehi, who appeared with Sanjay Dutt in the song's dance video, and lyricist Raqib Alam distanced themselves from the controversy.
Fatehi stated that she had recorded the Kannada version three years ago. When she heard the Hindi version, she informed the producers. Alam stated that he had also warned the filmmakers that the Hindi lyrics were obscene.
Alam stated that he was asked to translate the Kannada version literally, which he did. The Kannada lyrics were written by the film's director, Prem. The song is part of the upcoming Kannada film "KD: The Devil," which was released on YouTube earlier this week.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has issued summons to actress Nora Fatehi, actor Sanjay Dutt, and others for alleged obscenity in the song "Sarke Chunar." Lyricist Raqib Alam, producer Venkat K. Narayan, and Kiran Kumar have also been summoned by the Commission to appear before it on March 24.
