'All We Imagine As Light' director receives French civilian honor, Payal Kapadia expressed happiness
Payal Kapadia: Filmmaker Payal Kapadia has been honored by the French government for her outstanding contribution to cinema and India-France cultural relations.

Kapadia, who made history for winning a major award in the 77th Cannes Film Festival, has been awarded the French civilian honor. Kapadia is extremely glad about the award and has also spoken about her delight over it.
According to a report from ANI, she was given the "Officer dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" award at a ceremony held at the French residence on Peddar Road in Mumbai on Wednesday. This is a major honor of France, which is given for contribution to art and culture.
Payal was delighted on the day and thanked the government of France for extending support to independent filmmaking. With the award, she has joined the ranks of Indian artists such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and Lata Mangeshkar.
Payal's cinematic journey began in 2017, when her short film "Afternoon Clouds" was selected at the Cannes Film Festival. Her first documentary "A Night of Knowing Nothing" won the Golden Eye Award. In 2024, her feature film "All We Imagine as Light" won the Grand Prix at Cannes, making her the first Indian director to win an award in the main competition in 30 years. The film received a Golden Globe nomination and several international awards. Made in France, the film was also France's official entry for the Oscars' international category.
