Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has expressed his views about Indian filmmakers. He said that Bollywood has collectively ignored its core audience. He gave the example of his own iconic films, Gangs of Wasseypur and Mukkebaaz, which, according to him, were never released properly in North India due to the wrong decision of the production studio.

Speaking to Hollywood Reporter India, Anurag said, "Our audience was collectively ignored. For example, during COVID-19, I found out that two of my films - Gangs of Wasseypur and Mukkabaaz, which now have a very core audience in North India, were not released in North India. I found out during a distribution meeting that my North Indian films were not released in the whole of North India because the studios decided that my core audience is in Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Hyderabad and that's it. How stupid they are."

He said, Ramoji said that the audience also connects with South films because the films there are connected to the roots. Something similar happens in Malayalam as well. They are running the cinema by doing the same. If films are made in Hindi like those made in the South, then the budget is made there. If a budget is given for promotion here, then everyone will come forward.

Anurag Kashyap said that people have come on OTT but these people have come to OTT from TV. People do not understand cinema. OTT people can say that the film was released in theatres, we watched it on OTT.
