Every Hindi film wedding needs a big song, and most follow a familiar formula. With 'Bhabhi Tabaahi', the team behind Nayyi Navelli is trying to break that pattern. Composer G. V. Prakash Kumar says the goal was to keep the song desi at heart while giving it a streak of "madness".

The Composer on Chasing an Unpredictable Sound
"'Bhabhi Tabaahi' was one of those songs where we just wanted to have fun with the sound. It has a very desi flavour, but at the same time it has to feel fresh and have a lot of energy," said G. V. Prakash Kumar.
He added, "We didn't want it to feel predictable, so we played around with the rhythm and the arrangement. Vayu's lyrics have a mischievous energy, and Neeti's voice brings so much character to the song. Yami also understood exactly what the song needed from her character. There's a little bit of madness running through the whole thing, which I think is what makes the song so enjoyable. It's the kind of song you can imagine playing at a family celebration, with everyone joining in."
Choreographing Mohini's Mood Swings
Yami plays Mohini, and choreographer Vijay Ganguly says the character shaped every step. "'Bhabhi Tabaahi' was one of the most fun songs I have choreographed, and it was even more special with Yami who is playing Mohini in the film. Mohini has a distinct personality, and can change expressions and dance forms on the click of a beat. The choreography had to have the same confidence with just the right amount of cheekiness, so it feels like it belongs to Mohini."
He singled out one sequence. "The song is so well written in the script that the narrative was too much fun to choreograph, especially the Devar-Bhabhi faceoff. Yami worked very hard to make sure we could pull off long takes and brought so much spontaneity to the performance. The song and the visuals will grow on you and will surely keep you wanting to watch it again and again."
A Sharp Turn for Yami Gautam Dhar
'Bhabhi Tabaahi' also marks a clear change of gear for Yami Gautam Dhar. Nayyi Navelli is a departure from her recent serious dramas such as A Thursday and Lost. Most recently, she earned critical acclaim for playing Shah Bano in Haq (2025), a far cry from a playful wedding number.
The new film swaps courtroom intensity for folklore and family chaos. Yami plays Mohini, a bride whose welcome into a tumultuous family in Meerut brings a moment of calm, until her brother-in-law begins to suspect she might be a daayan. The film mixes family drama with horror, comedy and a touch of Indian folklore.
That context gives the song's "madness" a sharper meaning. The track is set during Mohini's Muh Dikhayi ceremony. While the family seems smitten with her, the brother-in-law remains suspicious and dares her to dance to Western beats, a challenge she answers by moonwalking. This is the "Devar-Bhabhi faceoff" Vijay Ganguly described.
For an actor whose recent choices have leaned towards serious, issue-driven roles, a horror-comedy with dance numbers and fourth-wall breaks is a deliberate genre switch. In the teaser, Mohini even speaks directly to viewers: "Deviyon aur sajjanon, a little request. THINK BIG."

The team behind the song is an interesting mix. G. V. Prakash Kumar is best known for his Tamil film work, and director Balaji Mohan also comes from Tamil cinema. They are paired here with producer Aanand L. Rai and writer Himanshu Sharma, the duo behind small-town Hindi hits like Tanu Weds Manu and Raanjhanaa.
That combination explains the song's approach. It keeps the rooted, family-wedding feel Rai and Sharma's films are known for, but with rhythm and arrangement choices meant to surprise.
