Comedian and host of 'India's Got Latent' Samay Raina is facing a new controversy. The Supreme Court said on Monday that it is going to examine a plea in which Samay Raina is accused of mocking people with disabilities, particularly visually impaired individuals and individuals with rare diseases, such as spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).

The bench of Justice Suryakant and N Kotishwar Singh termed the matter serious and asked senior advocate Aparajita Singh of the NGO 'Cure SMA Foundation of India' to file a formal petition. The court said, "This is a serious issue. You file a writ petition. We will see what can be done." The court also clarified that such cases can be widely considered in a writ petition.

'Cure SMA Foundation of India' has asked the court to make guidelines for online content. The NGO says that strict rules are necessary to stop derogatory and degrading content against the disabled, their diseases, and treatment. The NGO clarified that it does not want to ban all content, but only wants to curb such content that insults the disabled.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court on behalf of Assam and Maharashtra Police that the investigation in the FIR registered in Mumbai has been completed, but the charge sheet has not been filed yet. At the same time, the statement of a co-accused is yet to be recorded in the Guwahati FIR. The Assam Police lawyer said that co-accused Apoorva Makhija was issued a notice twice, but she did not come to record the statement.

During this hearing, the court also discussed the case of influencer and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia. Several FIRs have been registered against Ranveer for objectionable remarks on Samay Raina's show. The court noted that the investigation against Ranveer has been completed. Now his petition, in which he is demanding the return of his passport, will be heard on April 28.
