Anurag Kashyap Reviews ‘Dhurandhar’, Praises Filmmaking but Flags Two Dialogues

The movie "Dhurandhar" has been running in theatres for 30 days. Meanwhile, it has already collected ₹800 crores. Even as the audience is liking the movie, they have been alleging it to be a propaganda movie. Anurag Kashyap, the director, has also aired his views on the movie.

Anurag Kashyap posted a review of "Dhurandhar" on his profile page on Letterboxd, a film review platform. He writes, "A spy cannot be a spy if he doesn't harbor hatred and anger for the enemy country." Even a soldier cannot be a soldier if he doesn't have anger towards the enemy country. I have no problem with these two things. I had a problem with two scenes: one when Madhavan says that a day will come when someone will think about the country. The second is when Ranveer says that this is the new India. Putting these two dialogues aside, it's a good film.

Anurag Kashyap further writes, "Actually, this is a brilliant film, set entirely in Pakistan. I've known director Aditya Dhar since his National Award-winning film 'Boond.' This is his politics, true politics. You may agree or disagree with it, but he is honest. He's not an opportunist like others. All of Aditya's films are about Kashmir; he is a Kashmiri Pandit who has suffered. You can argue with him or leave it. But the film is top-class." If you like 'The Hurt Locker,' 'Zero Dark Thirty,' or 'House of Dynamite,' these are Oscar-winning propaganda films about the USA. I ignored two propaganda dialogues, but I liked the filmmaking and the filmmaker's stubbornness.

Anurag named Ranveer Singh's performance in 'Dhurandhar' as his favorite. He ultimately called 'Dhurandhar' an important film. 'Dhurandhar' was a huge box office success. It crossed the ₹800 crore net collection mark on its 30th day of release, becoming the first Hindi film to do so.
