Ayushmann Khurrana and Nawazuddin Siddiqui Unite for Folk-Inspired Film “Thama”
Thama Story: Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Ayushmann Khurrana's film "Thama" is soon to be released. Both have spoken about its story.
Ayushmann Khurrana and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are in the limelight for their new movie "Thama." Both of them are collaborating for the first time. They feel this is the appropriate time to present Indian folk stories to the world. The two actors opined that they were brought up with Vikram and Betal stories and enjoyed similar aspects of the film themselves.
In "Thama," Ayushmann Khurrana plays Alok, a Delhi journalist. He accidentally finds himself transported to a different world of vampires after meeting a mysterious woman played by Rashmika Mandanna and a vampire played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Speaking to PTI, Ayushmann Khurrana said, "It's a very good trend in our country, where we're staying within the confines of our culture, language, and so on. We're seeing more of our culture. Films are being made around it, and we're becoming more 'desi' and connecting with it. People want to learn about India because the more local we are, the closer we get to the culture. This leads to greater global acceptance, as people are also interested in stories coming from India. So, I think this is a very welcome change. It's good that we're staying close to the culture. 'Thama' is based on this."
Nawazuddin Siddiqui added, "Stories from folk traditions help promote Indian culture worldwide. There are thousands of stories here, so even if we make two or four films a year, we'll still have more to tell. We've heard some stories from our grandparents, so there are still many more stories left."
"Thama" is a horror-comedy film. It began in 2018 with "Stree," starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor. Its success led to films like "Roohi," "Bhediya," and "Munjya." "Thama" will be released in theaters on October 21st.
